Yes, Wuthering Waves is completely free to play on PC, mobile (iOS/Android), and PS5. The game uses a gacha system for obtaining new characters and weapons, but all story content, exploration, and events are fully accessible without spending money. Many powerful characters like Rover (the protagonist) are given for free and can clear all content.

PC offers the best visual quality and combat experience with keyboard/mouse or controller support. Mobile is great for daily tasks and resin farming on the go. PS5 provides a polished console experience with good performance. Your account progress syncs across all platforms — pick what fits your lifestyle.

Build your free Rover first — they're surprisingly powerful and work in any team. For your first limited banner pulls, prioritize a strong DPS character. Check our Tier List for current rankings. Verina (available on the standard banner) is the best healer in the game and fits into almost every team composition.

Character banners have 80-pull pity with a 50/50 system: your first 5-star has a 50% chance to be the featured character. If you lose the 50/50, your next 5-star is guaranteed to be the featured character (guaranteed pity). Weapon banners have 80-pull pity with a targeted system — you choose which weapon you want, and you're guaranteed to get it within 80 pulls. Pity carries over between banners of the same type (limited character pity carries to the next limited character banner).

Most players should prioritize character banners. A character gives you a new playstyle and team options, while weapons are mostly stat sticks. Only pull on weapon banners if: (1) you already own the character, (2) the weapon is a massive upgrade (signature weapons typically are), and (3) you have enough Astrite left after securing the character. F2P players can use craftable 4-star weapons which are perfectly viable.

Yes. Your pity count and 50/50 status both carry over across all limited character banners. Switching from one version's banner to the next won't reset your progress — every pull counts. Note that weapon banners have a separate pity counter from character banners. The standard banner also has its own independent pity system.

F2P players can expect roughly 60-80 pulls per version cycle (42 days).

Aim for approximately a 1:2 ratio. For most DPS characters: 70%+ CRIT Rate and 140%+ CRIT DMG is a solid endgame target. Before you reach that, prioritize getting CRIT Rate to at least 60% so your attacks actually crit consistently. Some characters with built-in CRIT Rate buffs (like Jinhsi) can run slightly less. Support characters don't need CRIT investment — focus on their utility stats instead.

Sonata Effects are set bonuses from equipping multiple Echoes of the same type. Each element has its own Sonata:

• Spectro: Eternal Radiance — Best for Spectro DPS (Jinhsi, Shorekeeper, Phoebe)
• Aero: Sierra Gale — Best for Aero DPS (Cartethyia)
• Havoc: Moonlit Clouds — Best for Havoc DPS (Roccia, Camellya)
• Glacio: Freezing Frost — Best for Glacio DPS (Carlotta)
• Fusion: Molten Rift — Best for Fusion DPS (Changli)
• Electro: Void Thunder — Best for Electro DPS (Yinlin)

Always match your main DPS's element to their corresponding Sonata for maximum damage.

Most characters are perfectly usable at Chain 0 (no copies). Resonance Chain upgrades are nice-to-have but not required for any content. Chain 1 and Chain 6 are typically the biggest power spikes. As a F2P or low-spender, focus on pulling more characters rather than maxing out chains. Only consider going for chains if you really love a character and have spare resources after building a diverse roster.

Priority order for a new character:

1. Character Level to 80/90 (unlocks all talents)
2. Forte (Skills) — Max the main damage skill first (usually Forte Circuit or Resonance Liberation)
3. Weapon to level 90
4. Echoes — Get the right main stats first, then farm for substats
5. Resonance Chain — Only if you have spare copies

Echoes drop from overworld bosses and weekly bosses. To farm efficiently:

1. Target the specific boss that drops your element's Echo set
2. Use Tuner items to reveal substat values before leveling
3. Prioritize main stats first — a correct main stat with bad substats beats wrong main stat
4. Level Echoes to +15 to unlock all substats, then evaluate
5. Only invest heavily in Echoes with 3+ good substats

For DPS characters:

• Cost 4: CRIT Rate% or CRIT DMG% (whichever you need more of)
• Cost 3: Element DMG Bonus% (e.g., Spectro DMG Bonus) or ATK%
• Cost 1: ATK% (flat ATK is much worse)

For supports/healers:

• Cost 4: Healing Bonus% or Energy Regen%
• Cost 3: ATK% or HP% depending on the character's scaling
• Cost 1: ATK% or HP%

• Daily: Spend all Waveplate (resin) on boss drops or echo domains
• Weekly: Clear Tower of Adversity and all weekly bosses
• Events: Always complete limited events — they give the best value materials
• Exchange: Use leftover event currency in the shop before it resets
• Map: Pin farming routes for common materials and run them every few days
